Warrant/Records Clerk

The Warrant/Records Clerk is a civilian clerical position assigned to receive and process criminal warrants into the Criminal Justice System. The person selected will be required to update the status of all warrants in the Montgomery County Sheriff Office system as will as the TCIC/NCIC system. This person may be responsible for answering phones and or taking messages as well as greeting the public in person or by phone. This person is also responsible for transcribing and recording hand written police reports into an in-house computer system. This person may be responsible for working or relieving an information center at the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office and/or any other job related duties requested by the supervisor.


Applicant Minimum Standards for the Warrants/Records Clerk


Applicants for Warrants/Records Clerk position must be at least 18 years of age on the date of employment.


Applicants must be a high school graduate or have passed a General Education Development (GED) test indicating high school graduation level.


Applicants must be a resident of the contiguous United States for a period of time sufficient to conduct a comprehensive background investigation. Consideration will be given for military overseas assignments.  If a military veteran, applicant must not have been discharged from any military service under less than honorable conditions and must not have been convicted of any court-martial higher than a summary.


Applicant must pass all phases of testing required for the position being sought.


Applicant must possess a current valid Texas driver's license and proof of liability insurance.  No felony convictions.  No misdemeanor convictions above Class C in the past five years.


Applicant must have a stable credit history.  A consumer credit report is required and must be submitted during the application process.  Applicants rejected due to their credit history will be advised.  


Applicants must have a favorable employment history.  All information given regarding past employment will be thoroughly checked. An unfavorable record may be grounds for rejection of the applicant’s employment application.


Applicant must be available for shift work. 


Applicants must pass a typing and clerical skills (type 50 W.P.M.).  Basic computer experience is necessary.  Prior clerical skills / secretarial experience preferred.


Applicant must be able to file numerically and alphabetically.


After receiving a conditional offer of employment, all applicants must pass a drug screen and physical examination before they become employees of Montgomery County. Half of the cost of these tests is the responsibility of the applicant.
