The Jail Records Specialist is a civilian clerical position assigned to receive and process all paperwork of arrested individuals who are incarcerated in the Montgomery County Jail. The person selected will be required to update the status of all inmates in the Montgomery County Sheriff Office system. This person may be responsible for answering phones, taking messages as well as greeting the public in person or by phone. The applicant for this position will be performing these and any other job related duties requested by the supervisor.
Applicant Minimum Standards for the Jail Records Specialist
Applicants for the Jail Records Specialist position must be at least 19 years of age on the date of employment.
Applicants must be a high school graduate or have passed a General Education Development (GED) test indicating high school graduation level.
Applicants must be a resident of the contiguous United States for a period of time sufficient to conduct a comprehensive background investigation. Consideration will be given for military overseas assignments. If a military veteran, applicant must not have been discharged from any military service under less than honorable conditions and must not have been convicted of any court-martial higher than a summary.
Applicant must possess a current valid Texas driver's license and proof of liability insurance.
No convictions above a Class B misdemeanor or a Class B misdemeanor within the last ten years nor have been on or currently on court-ordered community supervision or probation for any criminal offense above a grade of Class B misdemeanor or Class B misdemeanor within the last ten years. Not currently under indictment for any criminal offense and never had a family violence conviction.
Applicant must have a stable credit history. A consumer credit report is required and must be submitted during the application process. Applicants rejected due to their credit history will be advised.
Applicants must have a favorable employment history. All information given regarding past employment will be thoroughly checked. An unfavorable record may be grounds for rejection of the applicant’s employment application.
Applicant must be available for shift work and be flexible to adjust for staffing shortages.
Applicants must pass a typing and clerical skills test. Basic computer experience is necessary. Prior clerical skills/secretarial experience preferred.
Applicants must be able to file numerically and alphabetically.
After receiving a conditional offer of employment, all applicants must pass a drug screen and physical examination before they become employees of Montgomery County. Half of the cost of these tests is the responsibility of the applicant.
